A Strange Question.

Mon Aug 4, 2008, 1:21 PM
I'm in the habit of sitting on the deck of my apartment building to smoke my pipe or a cigar in the evenings, and have noted a remarkable lack of insects about this year.

I live in rual Ohio, and there are usually clouds of insects buzzing around the street lights, but not this year. In fact, there are almost no bugs buzzing around. I find this rather sstrange and am wondering if anyone else in the country has noticed it. Please reply an satisfy my curiosity.

Stealing Imagination

Sun Mar 23, 2008, 5:10 PM
Those of you who watch me know I don’t do many journals. I love to write, but unless you are a political, news, and history junkie PLUS a sci-fi geek, I just don’t think anyone would be interested in my day-to day-life. However, a few days ago I had some art work used without being given due credit, and its been bugging me. I’ve had my artwork ripped before, and the most recent incident was fairly minor, but one long time online friend of mine, and one other Deviantart user I know of had been ripped off, and the problem seems to be more and more common.

In one case, the offender tried very hard to justify his theft, but the truth is, there is no justification for stealing other artist’s work. When an artist or writer in any genre or medium creates a work of art it is part of that artists goes into it: its part of that artist no how many time it’s copied, even if it is radically altered. I’m not a professional artist, so when someone steals my art I’m not loosing any money, but it is still I violation of fundamental ethical principles, and show a lack of respect for me, and a for the people who are deceived into believing that my work was done my the thief in question. When art is stolen, especially if the thief is another artist, it is an affront to all artists everywhere rather they are professional or not.

It comes down to why anyone picks of the pencil, brush or tablet stylus to create a piece of artwork. They want to bring a piece of their imagination and creativity into the world in a tangible form, to share a piece of themselves with others and maybe bring some more beauty and elegance into the world leaving it a little better of than it was before the work was created. If some steals someone else’s art, they are attacking that person on a level that goes beyond physical, they are striking at what makes that person unique and special. It hurts that artist, even if they don't realize it.
